Basic 5 Paragraph Essay Structure

Paragraph 1: Introduction
Hook
Background information
Thesis Statement
Briefly introduce topics of each body paragraph.

Paragraph 2: Body 1
Topic Sentence: Contains the main idea of your paragraph.
Supporting sentences with details and examples which support the main idea of your topic sentence.
Connection of the topic sentence to the thesis statement.

Paragraph 3: Body 2
Topic Sentence: Contains the main idea of your paragraph.
Supporting sentences with details and examples which support the main idea of your topic sentence.
Connection of the topic sentence to the thesis statement.
*Note this topic sentence and these supporting sentences are different and thus new arguments compared to those in Body 1.

Paragraph 4: Body 3
Topic Sentence: Contains the main idea of your paragraph.
Supporting sentences with details and examples which support the main idea of your topic sentence.
Connection of the topic sentence to the thesis statement.

Paragraph 5: Conclusion
Your conclusion is basically a restatement of your introduction with emphasis on your thesis statement.
Be sure to remind the reader of the main points made in each body paragraph and how they connect to the thesis statement.
Remember your conclusion is your last chance to persuade the reader of the main argument you wish to make in your essay.
Types and styles of concluding statements can vary.
